How to use bin & cue d/l |
|
|
Hi all,
I downloaded a zip file yesterday which had 3 files in it - a bin and cue
file along with a serial number in a text file.
Great! Now what do I do with it to make it useful?

You need a burning application that will burn bin and cue files, such as
Nero.
From the Nero file menu (recorder menu in Nero 6+), select burn image and
pick the cue file. This will then recreate the disc content. If you get an
error, it is likely that the path in the cue file (open in notepad) is wrong
and doesn't point to the BIN file. Change the cue or the file location.
The serial number will presumably allow you to install the stolen program
from the CD.

Thanks Graham. I'm well aware of how to use serial numbers as I work in
computer support at a college and I have lotsa those that we use to install
apps on staff and classroom PC's. BTW, my employer has an agreement with
Microsoft that allows staff to borrow (from the library) and install their
software on home PC's - Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro doesn't fall into that
category. |

I would love to see the Microsoft EULA that permits such copying.

Actually that is quite common practice for Microsoft with educational
institutions. MS learned a long time ago that if you get your software used
in school/uni environments that you are training up the workforce to use it
when they graduate and go into the workforce so there is less on-the-job
training for entry level employees. They get back their lost revenue by
hammering commercial users with stiff retail prices for their software. |

Graham Mayor (MS MVP), were you also born
with "Scam Artist" emblazoned on your face?

Does the "P" in MVP stand for "PRICK"?
Does MS stand for "Mikey S-licker"?

It's also common with government agencies, especially where MS is
looking to get their foot into the door of one department hoping to
get their products adopted agency wide. We're allowed to install
Office Pro on home computers, for work at home purposes. The EULA
also allows person use, but not home business use. Since it's a
corporate license, no activation is needed.
