Nero 6. Is there a way to burn WMA files to your hard disk instead of
CD?

Thanks very much.

I just need to convert WMA to another format without playing the song.
I have Nero, Adobe Audition 1.0 (does not support WMA at ersion 1.0).

Thanks very much
Sincerely
Patty

Drag the files into a Nero compilation, right click and select convert.
Worked for MP3's anyhow.

Thanks. Great info. Actually I saw a menu selection icon ( in Nero
StartSmart) under Audio called "Encode Audio Files".
I assume this can decode WMA files but I need to fine one.

I guess I do not need the MP3PRO addin.

Thanks, Patty

I did find that the "Encode Audio Files" does not decode WMA due to a
error message indicating that the program will not work with WMA files.
Due to licensing issues.

Must be another way using some other program.

Ideas?

Thanks, Patty

Burn to audio CD, then rip. Use Image recorder as "CD", so that you will not
waste disks. Enable overburn to 150mins (that's max) to get the most in one
compilation. Then mount image using "nero image drive". Use your favorite
ripping prog, maybe windows media player, to rip from cda-tracks on mounted
CD-image.

You need Nero's wma-plugin for this procedure, can be downloaded on
www.ahead.de.
Did this yesterday on some drm- enabled wma-files I had. I converted them to
non-drm wma-files to use in winamp. Of course you need to have a proper
license for the tracks.

Ok, probably a lot of programs can be used if you're not dealing with
drm-enabled files.

Well I downloaded and installed the plu-in and rebooted. Still get the
message...Microsoft's license does not allow transcoding of WAM files
into any other format.

Of course I can burn the files to CD. I want to change the format on my
disk. Try using NeroStartSmart, Select Audio, and then Select Encoding.
Add a file and I bet you get the same message.

Tried with 10 different files even some that came with base
installation of WIndows XP.

The program I bought for a small fee SmartAudioConverter works well to
and from any format without a problem. Adobe Audition 1.0 will not
recognize WMA unless you upgrade for $70 or so to 1.5 version.

Thanks,
Patty

Download dbpowerAmp package. This used to be free, but a small registration

fee is now required for .mp3 conversion. For wma, you might need to have
latest version of windows media player. It's a long time since I played with
..wma.

If worst comes to worst, you can convert the file by playing it. There
are utilities which can record anything that goes through your sound
card. The drawback is that, being in real time, the conversion is
slow.

I use JetAudio ver6.04 (freeware). It records easily in real time.

JetAudio also has a direct conversion function which lists WMA7 and
WMA9. But I haven't used them. If it works for you, the conversion is
almost instantaneous. If not, you can fallback to playing with WMP and
simultanously recording with Jet Audio (or another similar utility of
your choice).

Enjoy!

I raised a related question yesterday in the thread "What is

'mounting'? Use for decrypting?' ". After help here I achieved my
objective (decrypting WMA files rather than converting them) as
follows:
1. Made image MyWMAFiles.NRG using Nero Express
2. Installed Daemon Tools and mounted MyWMAFiles.NRG in its 'virtual'
drive, G:
3. Ripped new WMA tracks from that virtual drive, in my case using my
preferred player/organiser, MediaMonkey.

I could not find a way to mount this file in Nero itself. My OEM Nero
6 package came with my DVD-writer a few months ago. There is a program
in Start > ahead > Nero ImageDrive. But on trying to run it I get a
message saying my licence doesn't allow it.

Presumably your post assumed a 'full retail' version of Nero, rather
than an OEM package?

It's a full version Nero 6 reloaded, yes.
