Newbie Question about SCSI drives and hidden partitions (per |
|
|
Hi
Yes I am a newbie to modern SCSI drives
I have received 2 SCSI drives which are aprox 36G and 18G. I have
plugged each of them into my PCI interface card and booted with a
win98 start-up disk and started Fdisk only to find that the capacity
of each of these drives is 1001M.
Now thinking that these disks may have been used under linux, I tried
booting with BootitNG. Well the same result 1001M.
As a baseline, I tried a 4.3G SCSI I had lying around DOS formatted
and it comes up just fine as 4.3G
I just dont know what to try next, is there anyone that can give me
some leads?
Either here or at troyf67@yahoo.com
Thank you kindly
Troy |

What make and model drives are these? What interface? Why Windows-98
which is an antique? What does the scsi card bios say? Did you format
in the scsi utilites part of the bios? |

As if that makes a difference.

Btw, he actually meant that he booted DOS.
If you can't even recognize something that simple then what business
do you have here.

Doesn't make a difference.
The number of blocks isn't affected with Format Unit. |

I live in a community with many people of Dutch heritage. It's not
uncommon to see bumper stickers with
"You can always tell a Dutchman.... But you can't tell him much."

Being born as a dutchman, and "found worthy" to be a dane, I find that a
very offensive remark. My common-law wife would not agree with the remark;
she keeps telling me things....

Drives: Barracuda ST336918N (36.9G) & sorry I looked up the other and
its only a 1280M (sorry my mistake)
Interface: Adaptec AHA-2940UW (using the 50pin)
I used win98 start disk for the FDisk utility
I did boot into the SCSI utilities and formated, still 1001M
I have booted from the IDE drive into XP which without problems
installs the interface which in the hardware also chows the drive as
being 1001M
I have tried booting from the CDRom with Win2000 Server Edition and it
recognised the SCSI drive as 1001M as well.
....maybe the drive is crapped out, I really dont know.

OK forget my question everyone... I find that everything is working
just fine. I have been taken! Some one sold me the ST336918N which
turns out to actually be an ST31200N. Ripped me off by changing the
tags! very good job at it as well, I might add! Grrrrrrrr
Sorry and Thank you
