Printing on to CDs? |

Can anyone recommend a 'home' printer, not too expensive, that will print on
to CDs and DVDs and will also print on to paper, envelopes etc.

The lowest price one is the epson r200. It does a real nice job of
printing on cds.

Hi,
I'm using an Epson R1800 that does a very nice job on DVDs for printing.
It prints them quickly and quietly as well. The pigment inks will not fade
easily. This machine is probably not what you want as it sells for about
$500 and makes prints 13" wide. It's a photo printer. However, you could
look into the smaller version, R800 (about $300) that uses the same
technology. Further, I believe the R200 will give CD printing, but I'm not
certain of the quality, and I have heard of problems with the CD carrying
tray unlike the R800 or R1800. That machine markets for something like $100
and uses dye based inks. The R300 sells for about $150 and does CDs as well,
using dye based inks. It appears that the printers I've mentioned are all
photo printers.

I have the r200 and the quality of the print is great.I have had this
printer for 1 year now and have not had any probems with it.It sells for
less than$99.00

I basicly ditched the r200 in favor of the canon ip3000 and mp760.

Pixma cd printing is an option in america if you follow the directions
on that website and buy a tray from e-bay.

Given a Pixma starts at about $120 these days and a cd tray will run
you about $30, we are looking at more money than your average Epson
cheepo printer out of the box. But the Pixma will do text for less,
and is less likely to clog. If it does clog canon will send you a new
printhead next day air during the warranty period. The epson
r200/300/320/340 all have their good points but IMHO are not as well
built as the ip4000/5000. While I've not met the new ip4200/ip5200 i'm
willing to bet the same is true. The Epsons listed are fab photo
printers but have their issues. |

It depends up where you live.
Epson owns the rights to CD printing mechanisms on inkjet printers made
for North America. Canon seems to have the European market.

I thought it was a Philips issue rather than an Epson one, as in Canon
doesn't want to pay royalties to Phillips. Do correct me if i'm wrong
but Canon was printing on CDs in the i series before the r200/r300 was
released, specificly the i865 and i965. You can buy inkjet CD printers
not made by either canon or philips, just only canon and epson have
paper and cd printers that i'm aware of.

I'm not fully aware of the legal logistics. You may be correct. I got
the impression that Epson has an exclusive in North America, for some
reason. But maybe it's just that Canon didn't feel it was worth the
market costs.
Anyway you cut it, Epson is the main supplier for North America of
inkjet printers that can print onto CD/DVD disks.

is $129.99. I've seen it for about $120 typicaly speaking which is the
lowest current model that supports CD printing. The lowest I've seen
it is $106. |
