Hi
I would like to know if it's possible (better?) to mixed two arrays on the
two channels.
I have 10 disks and I want two create a Raid 5 (8 disks) and a Raid 0 (2
disks). Can I do that if I connect 4+1 disks on each channel? Or is it
better to connect 8 disks (for my Raid 5) on one channel and 2 disks (Raid
0) on the second channel.
Thanks
FD

If it's technically possible or not -> Manual.

May be possible, but doesn't make much sense to me. If you have RAID 1
of 2 drives and use own bus for each drive, you would have bus-
redundancy - even if one bus fails, the box will keep running cause the
2nd bus is still working.
But if you spend each RAID 0-drive an own bus, you will loose the array
if one bus fails. Same for RAID 5, IMHO you won't have any additional
redundancy.
Anyway, you would have better performance if you use 2 busses instead 1
for all drives.

Actually, what I really want to do is a raid 50 (2 raid5) and a raid0.
And I was wondering if it's better to have each raid5 on each channel (the
adaptec 2230 has 2 channels).
E.g. :
1st channel : 4 disks (3 + 1 hot spare) for the raid5 and one disk of the
raid0
2nd channel : the same e.g. 4 disks (3+1 hot spare) for the second raid5 and
the second disk of the raid0
Should I do that, or should I connect the 8 disks of my raid 50 (4+4+2 hot
spares) on the first channel and the raid0 and the second one
Thanks
