If you were burning one after another, maybe the burner got too hot?
Did the burner slow down when burning the coasters? What's the burner's
model name?

One thing to try, speed. I always try reducing speed, specially if the
burner insists on burning at max.

Plus, curious here, are you doing this burning all at once or over a
number of days? You might simply be doing too much in one go.

i burned 5 good and 2 bad in 2 hours and the one i tried today also
was bad
it did not seem slower
its an emachine original equipment burner
it did the whole process and then said it couldnt complete and the
disk was full and unreadable

is there an error log somewhere?

I'm not sure about individual things unless you get a crash. assuming
you're using XP if you go to start/settings/control
panel/administrative tools/event viewer/ then click on either
application or system in the left panel then look down the right hand
pane for error icons, red circled i think or yellow warning marks.
click them and see what they say but they're kind of tricky even if
you do find them, usually needing deciphering at MSN or such.

I would say, as you're burning max speed, try reducing your speeds a
notch or two. Assuming you're burning at something like 52x you can
afford a couple of notches down.

I've been having a problem with buffer under run since I installed a
Windows Media Player Hotfix ( security patch). A friend said he'd heard
WMF could screw up your burner, so I uninstalled the patch, but it hasn't
helped. Data looks like it burns but the disc won't read and audio aborts
with a buffer underrun error message in three different programs.

I would try a real burning program, you can get freeware, I used burn4free
with no problems (emachine) until I got an external dvd burner which came
bundled with the drive. I was a little disappointed when I got my emachine
home and found they didn't bundle any burning software.
