Letters Last week's story about the Dutch Consumer Association
withdrawing its call to boycott Epson inkjet printers prompted a

small but high-quality response from Reg readers. First up is Joe
"Floid" Kanowitz who challenges printer makers to put the
intelligence on the printhead. He is followed by Roderick Pruitt's
tale of what happened to his Epson printers when he bypassed the
Intellidge cartridge.

The first letter seemed to ramble on a bit and didn't make complete sense.
The second one, which said " I ran all my cartridges till they ran dry then
they started to clog" says it all. The thing is which magazine tested
finding that there is still 25% remaining in the epson but only 5% in the
canon. As the printers i use only give you 30 to 50 pictures (a4) in the
firstplace before emptying i don't know how he got an extra 30 out. My
advice is a quality continuous ink system if you are serious. Batches of
ink last a while so you can get a proper profile each time. I've seen one
offered for the R300 which lasts about 8 times, £80. That includes the
tubes and the cartidges that are chipped to register never to run out. The
bottles are clear so can tell. Replacement bottles are even larger
capacity, £8 each. My philosophy has been quality 3rd party ones and
replace when instructed. So what if they still have ink. A full set of
refills is £12. An official 6 cart bulk pack is £40. I would only save £16
on the first 8 cartridges. I also don't know how much i would have to
modify the printer and invalidate the warranty in order to get the carriage
working whilst having 6 tubes coming out of it. I think if i was doing
really high volume then a quality laser printer might be better. They seem
to produce very good photos but on plain paper. What do you guys think?

I have seen pro cis (continous ink systems) that have microfiltered ink.
they sell by the 125ml and cost something daft like £14 ago.
