Not heard of that particular malady. Is Dimentia a particular form of
madness caused by close association with monitor phlogisten, or has
your dose risen to such levels where you can't spell Dementia any
more?

Who said anything about Dementia?
I said dimentia, which is specifically associated with phlogisten.
Dementia is associated with not knowing what dimentia is.
Dontcha know any medicine or what!

That's because what has already been posted once is not worth further
consideration.

I wouldn't say it's encouraged. Perhaps tolerated would be a better word.

Ok.. I encourage top posting. If I have to scroll down to search for a
reply outside of my newsreader's view window, I generally delete the message
instead.

And top posting would work if there were only one reply for every post and
no follow up.
But, if someone new were to stumble onto the thread but his news server did
not contain any but the most recent post, it would be much easier for this
person to follow the history of the thread if everyone bottom posted.
What ruins us bottom posters's reputations are the folks who quote 500
lines of text, only to add their one line reply at the bottom. I, too,
agree that those types of bottom posters should be drawn and quartered.
Whoops, I just discovered that I am again pissing in the wind and ruined
another good pair of shoes.

Ah, that explains why I rarely see replies to my posts from you. :)

So do I, but I encourage bottom/mid posting. It is the lack of
trimming that is the problem, not where the text is.

Help make Usenet a better place: English is read downwards,
please don't top post. Trim replies to quote only relevant text.
Check groups.google.com before asking an obvious question. |

Holy revelations Batman!!!!
I just realized I am a bottom poster!
And, right after I dissed ("disrespected" for those of you not in to hip hop
culture) bottom posters. I always trim and post at the bottom.
I honestly thought I was a top poster because my replies are always in the
view window. :-/

So all we have to do to keep top-posters from mucking things
up is to post more than OE can display? Seems easy
enough... |

the earth's magnetic field makes bugger all difference to TFTs.
it DOES however, make a difference to CRTs and some TVs.
to prove this, if you've a big, preferably fairly high-res monitor,
turn it through 180 degrees without turning it off/on and degaussing,
and look closely at the screen. a slight colour stain is very common,
which'll usually clear by the automatic degauss.
it doesn't always, but can be done manually using a, well, manual
degausser - which is a big circular electromagnet that you turn on
about 6 foot from the screen, bring it towards it and wipe around the
outside of the casing, before retiring to a slight distance and turning
it off.
anyone who's spent any time in the TV repair business will know what i
mean - usually severe cases are caused by non-shielded loudspeakers
placed too close to the TV... |

that's because that's a MICROSOFT group, and as any Outlook Express
user can tell you, MS likes top posting. It's still wrong. |

Same here, Dallas! I strongly encourage "trimming the caboose" off quoted
messages as well.
It's absolutely maddening to sort through 3,527 lines of re-quoted quotes
to find the one line of reply... ;)

Perhaps then a suitable alternative would be for the poster to have at
least a short, one line notice that his "content" is at the bottom? ;)

"Wrong"? LOL! Who decides if it's wrong, you?
Sometimes I top post. Sometimes I bottom post and sometimes I post inline.
If you don't like it, sue me or call the Net police and have me arrested.

They are on their way now - expect a knock on your door at 3:00am.
If you do not respond immediately, your house will be strafed by
helicopter gunships and your family will be gased and burned to death
- and you will be railroaded thru a kangaroo court and imprisoned for
life.
