I am the OP of this topic.
I'm so very sorry for the trouble this topic has caused.
All I wanted was a little info about this printer.
I didn't expect so many people to get their knickers in a knot about what
ink I may use or may not use if I buy this printer.

What am I going to admit to? There is no rash, plague or wave of people
in this newsgroup having any real problems with non-Canon inks.
Certainly not any more than people who use the overpriced Canon ones.
In
fact, the only one, on a daily basis, in dozens of messages, who has
VERY serious problems and issues with the aftermarket inks is YOU - and
you've NEVER ever even tried any! Hmmmm..... let me think about the
absurdity of that scenario for a second. . . . Why would the MAJORITY
here care what the MINORITY (you!) has never used, compared or
experienced? On a scale of 1 to 10 you have zilch PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE of
any of these inks. Get some actual experience and then join in the
discussions.

NOW I HEAR PANTONE MAKES QUALITY INKS BUT ONLY FOR EPSON AND AT HIGH
PRICES. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY MADE PREFILLED CARTS FOR ALL
PRINTERS
AT ABOUT A 1/3 OF OEM. THEN I WOULD PROBABLY BE INCLINED TO TEST THEM
AND SEE FOR MY SELF.

We both know that day will never come. You'd never stick anything in
your printer unless it came straight from Canon. But... but, if you do,
you do know that you will become a member of the "church of aftermarket
inks". And everyone will then make fun of you. You don't want that, do
you?

IT ALL STARTED BY A COUPLE OF ASSHOLES CALLING ME NAMES FOR MY OPINION
AND THEN THE FLAMES BEGAN. I WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THESE ASSHOLES STOP.

The usual explanation why someone turns ugly: He's not really a bad
person, he was just abused as a youth (in this "cruel" newsgroup
composed of mostly mature adults with families and kids).

And that gives you perfect right to abuse anyone else now, huh?

Before you get any sympathies from me or anyone else, you'd have to
prove yourself worthy of them . . . like ceasing blatant lies, stop
spreading misinformation, and stop calling people names. I go out of my
way not to call you names, although I've had every right and
opportunity
to do so. Maybe that's why some newcomers to this group recently bought
my information and totally skipped yours - because of your "troll"
label. It's up to you, do you want to continue what you yourself have
created? Because I can see, no one's buying most of your opinions.
While there is some truth in what you say, I judge it too insignificant
and not a valid enough reason for me to go back and use ink which costs
more than my printer! Close to 10 years experience with non OEM inks
(for Epson, Lexmark, HP and Canon printers) has shown that I have
little
to fear using them and so much - as in money - to gain. And THIS IS
NOT
A BLATANT LIE! If it were I'd be using OEM inks right now, wouldn't I.

Don't worry about it. The topic didn't cause the problem, Frank the village
idiot did. He's a sociopath with a fixation on something he knows nothing
about, never having used third-party inks himself.

Every time someone hints that they might be pondering on the possibility
of thinking about the notion of considering the concept of investigating
using third-party inks, maybe, he gets on his hobby horse, rides out of
the nursery and starts shouting that the sky will fall on their head if
they do. Then he starts being abusive to anyone that suggests he might be
mistaken.

Welcome to comp.periphs.printers.

Jon.

Unfortunately this type of garbage happens in this ng but if you sift the
answers you can get good information.

In your case the problem is that the printer is very new, but it uses the same
engine as the printer it replaces and that has proved to be very reliable and
produces good quality.
I think this series of cannon printers is first rate and you get good value for
your money. Your post does not indicate the specific uses you have in mind so
it is difficult to give advice but good luck...if you decide to buy the 5200R I
would be very surprised if you are unhappy with it.

It's not your fault. As our resident troll pointed out he goes out of
his way to harass people in threads from people with legit questions
because he feels he was treated unfairly by others. Funny thing is you
never asked about aftermarket ink.

That no longer matters to our resident troll as he has reached a new

Has any body had any experience, good or bad, with this printer?

JHG

I have recently bought this and have some issues regarding the network
functionality.
I installed the printer first to use wireless connection via my NetGear
WGT624 Router (the usb cord must be plugged when changing/installing
network functionality). I then tried to print a 24MB picture (on a
DVD). The network traffic was around 70kbit/s to the printer (very
slow), and it took ages for it to respond. It then started print the
label slowly, but after about a quarter done, it halted and I got an
printer error "Printer not responding".
I tried it several times with no luck.
Then I moved on to an wired network solution. Now the traffic increased
to somewhere around ~2 Mbit/s (still very slow). The printer halted
before even starting to print and I got the same "Printer not
responding" error.

Unfortunately I haven't got any wireless PCs to check connection with
(but the signal strength is very strong according to Canon's software
and the printer is only about 1 meter away), but I have two PCs on the
LAN and they handle traffic with about 60 Mbit/s so I think the printer
isn't very well suited for network use with heavy images.

I can't find any contact possibility either for contacting Canon
regarding this so I don't know if this is a known problem or what
network "speed" the printer typically should perform with.

Although, when using usb connection everything works like a charm, very
fast and nice printouts. I also like the ability to have 2 different
"feeders" for papers so I don't need to have paper sticking up the top
(if I use the casette).

HTH,
Stefan
