Compatible inks OK for iP4000? |
|
|
Hi, I just purchased a Canon iP4000. It was about half price compared to a
year ago. So it was a good time to buy. My question is, I was planning to
use compatible inks since a set of Canon brand ones would cost me more than
I paid for this printer! Anyone have any experience with G&G brand
cartridges? Are they safe to use? Madison |

G & G is one of the generics that doesn't always use the same inks.
Suggest you stick with Formulabs. Since the tanks are so easy to refill,
bulk ink is a good way to go.
http://www.alotofthings.com/ carries Formulabs in bulk and in tanks.

The G & G's brand cartridges I have on hand appear to be of the same
manufacture as Vivicolor brand cartridges, known to be filled with
quality US made Formulabs ink. I have found the color G & G's to be
fine. But I would stay away from the large black BCI-3e though. I
haven't tried Vivicolor's BCI-3e, but the G & G ones use cheaper dye
black instead of pigmented black ink (as per Canon's specs). Big
difference in print quality!
As I haven't found a cheaper substitute cartridge in Canada for Canon's
pigmented BCI-3e, I simply refill with pigmented bulk BCI-3e ink readily
available from atlanticinjket.com. It seems to be identical to Canon's
own in print quality.

A BIG MISTAKE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHO THE MFG/FORMULATOR IS BECAUSE THE
VENDORS WILL NOT TELL YOU. YOU COULD GET THE SAME BAD INK FROM
DIFFERENT SOURCES AND CLOG YOUR PRINTHEAD.
THE ONLY NON OEM INK THAT IS A REAL BRAND IS PANTONE BUT I UNDERSTAND
THEY ONLY MAKE INKS FOR EPSON PRINTERS AND THEY ARE EXPENSIVE.
THE ONLY WAY YOU SHOULD EVEN CONSIDER AFTERMARKET INKS AND SUBJECT
YOURSELF TO THE WHIMS OF THE WHORES IS IF YOUR PRINTLOAD IS VERY HIGH
WHERE CANON INK WILL COST BETWEEN $700 AND $1000 A YEAR. AFTERMARKET
PREFILLED CARTS WILL RID YOU OF THE PAIN IN THE ASS AND MESS OF REFILLING.

Thank you kindly for your reply. I will have a go with the G&G brand then.
Except for the large black. For that one I'll just get the regular Canon
ones for now. I know I can trust you as I googled your recent posts. It's
quite simple that way to separate the good hearted, helpful people from the
trolls of the newsgroup. Madison |

Madison, get your inks from www.alotofthings.com (who supply Formulabs in
bulk and in carts). Just be careful of their Photo Magenta if the 4000 uses
it, it is too light, mix 95% Photo Magenta and 5% Magenta and your good to
go (really good).
Get some of their empty generic carts too if you get bulk ink, they are very
good, cheap and REALLY easy to refill.
I print Wedding proof prints with these ink and they look identical to Canon
inks, trust me, I have done a lot of comparisons personally. A cart cost me
AU$1 to refill, rather than AU$20+ from the shops, and it is not messy or
difficult at all, especially with their generic replacement carts.
