Canon ink is about $1 per ml, so it's pretty expensive if you print a lot.

=====================================

If your looking for high quality carts then try http://www.swiftink.com ,
the ink is made in the USA.

Don't know who makes the ink though.

$4 per cart is about 27 cents per ml.

======================================

I also keep hearing things about the ink sold at:
http://www.alotofthings.com/catalog/bulkinks_Canon_BCI-6-BCI-3.htm ,

The IP3000 ink is $24.95 for:

16oz (240ml)- Bulk Ink Set.
4oz each; Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Pigmented black

The IP4000/IP5000 is $28.95 for:

20oz (300ml)- Bulk Ink Set
4oz each; BCI-6 Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black & 4oz BCI-3e Pigmented black

There ink is manufactured by Sensient Imaging Technologies, Formulabs
Division - commonly called Formulabs for short. Distributed by TrueColor
Imaging.

At 5 cents per ml you can print away.

A BIG MISTAKE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHO THE MFG/FORMULATOR IS BECAUSE THE
VENDORS WILL NOT TELL YOU. YOU COULD GET THE SAME BAD INK FROM
DIFFERENT SOURCES AND CLOG YOUR PRINTHEAD.

THE ONLY NON OEM INK THAT IS A REAL BRAND IS PANTONE BUT I UNDERSTAND
THEY ONLY MAKE INKS FOR EPSON PRINTERS AND THEY ARE EXPENSIVE.

THE ONLY WAY YOU SHOULD EVEN CONSIDER AFTERMARKET INKS AND SUBJECT
YOURSELF TO THE WHIMS OF THE WHORES IS IF YOUR PRINTLOAD IS VERY HIGH
WHERE CANON INK WILL COST BETWEEN $700 AND $1000 A YEAR. AFTERMARKET
PREFILLED CARTS WILL RID YOU OF THE PAIN IN THE ASS AND MESS OF REFILLING.

I KNOW THIS BECAUSE SHOOTER HOOTER USES WHORES.

Nearly all of the bulk aftermarket inks are perfectly fine to use for
refilling. I've been a long time user of Formulabs ink and have recently
started using HobbiColors. Both inks are excellent and WILL NOT cause any
problems with clogging despite the lies that our resident newsgroup troll
continually spreads. Other inks such as from MIS and Weink also receive
excellent recommendations from experienced and knowledgeable users.

Without getting into a debate over the wisdom of using third party
ink, I'm curious as to the purely economic justification.

Do you complain because you can buy a $ 60 DVD player, but after
buying 4 movies on DVD you've spent as much as the hardware cost?
How many loaves of bread have you run through the toaster without
considering whether off-brand generic slices would make the bread
and toaster costs more equitable?

It sounds to me like you'd be happier if the manufacturers charged
$ 500 for the printer so the OEM ink would seem like a bargain.

A complete set of genuine Canon cartridges at Wal-Mart in Canada go for
about $125 CDN.

I can refill a complete set of cartridges using bulk ink for only $5.

Pre-filled compatibles go for between about $4 to $8 CDN each ($20 to
$40 for a set)

Which part of this lesson in economics don't you understand?

Do you purposely go out and buy the most expensive DVDs you can find or do
you shop around for a bit of a bargain? Likewise, do you always buy the most
expensive bread there is; knowing full well that the cheaper brands are
likely to be made out of exactly the same ingredients?

Most of us would be happier if manufacturers charged a more realistic price
for their hardware so they didn't need to charge a small fortune for ink in
an attempt at recouping the profit they lost selling the printer at a loss
in the first place.
