FUJITSU MAU3036NP SCSI (shutdown vs. NO shutdown) |
|
|
I have (with the help of a "geek" friend, just added a SCSI drive to my
computer (running XP). I'm keeping my initial drive (IDE) as a storage
drive.
The SCSI is an unbelievable improvement in speed, but my friend tells
me that to extend the life of this new SCSI drive I should avoid
shutting down my computer (just keep it on, ...even overnight). He
says that each time the computer is shut down, the SCSI drive
experiences a small electrical spike, and that in time, the
accumulation of these spikes will significantly reduce the lifespan of
the drive.
Prior to installing this SCSI, I had always shut down the computer when
finished using it, and had never let it run unattended overnight.
Can anyone out there shed more light on this subject (is this a design
flaw peculiar to SCSI drives...?)?
Any help very much appreciated!

Yup, a geek he is indeed.

Obviously. Speaks for itself.

You should choose your friends more carefully.
