Hi,

I have trawled Google Groups for an answer but have not got a
definitive one so I am posting this question myself.

I have a server with 3 SCSI drives. I have added an IDE drive (file
drive) to the server also. I am currently installing SBS2003 and when
doing so it brings up the IDE drive as the C drive which is not what I
want. I want one of the SCSI drives to be the C drive.

I read articles here that say this is normal and to overcome it I have
to put SCSI above IDE in my boot order within the BIOS. The problem I
have is that it is an AWARD BIOS and it does not have SCSI in it's 3
boot options I have:

Floppy
CD ROM
Hard Disc
ZIP 100/250
LS120

So I am stuck as to what to do next, I tried setting up the IDE drive
as a primary slave and a secondary slave but no joy.

Any further help as to what I can do next would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Aynz

Easiest: don't put primary partitions on the IDE drive. Make the whole spindle
an extended partition, and use that partition space to create logical
drive(s), from which the bios won't source a boot block...

I take it this can be achieved through F-Disk?

There are three ways to give one drive priority for drive C.

Delete all partitions, create just one for OS in Setup.
Make sure only active partition is one for OS.
Make sure other drives are full extended partitions.

Note that second option might not work. Setup may activate the first IDE primary.

Another option is disable the IDE channel in BIOS, or pull the plug.

Are you sure both the SCSI controller card and drive are being
recognized properly? If they're found during POST, 'SCSI' should be
one of the options in the above list.

Additionally, I believe the SCSI ID has to be 0 for the boot drive.

Yep the controller is recognised as it shows up when booting and also
shows the three drives. Also in the Windows setup they are shown in the
list but obviously as D E F drives.

You should be able to boot of any SCSI ID.

The BIOS should show a SCSI option even if you don't have SCSI.
I mean - how many people have a LS120?

It is pretty poor I admit, I even flashed my Bios to see if the SCSI
option would appear but nope not a jot.

The next thing I'd try is removing all but the SCSI boot drive.

I once tried to intermingle 2 Fujitsu 15K RPM drives on an Adaptec
19160. One an U160, the other a U320. The card would recognize one or
the other, but not both.

My Award BIOS has an option (separate to the list above) for selecting
SCSI or IDE hard disk first, which solves this problem for me - but
perhaps that option is only provided on boards with onboard SCSI.
