I've been noticing that my Plextor PX-708U connected to my
Windows 2000 system via firewire has been burning slow.

Though rated to burn DVD+R at 8x, it's been burning at 2x
CD-RW rated at 24x is burning at 4x
CD-R rated at 40x is burning at 20x.

Any thoughts?

How are you measuring the speed? Remember that speeds will be lower if
you are only burning small amounts of data to the inside of the disc.
Are you using the recommended media? Plextor drives have a database of
known media stored in their firmware and will only record at high speed
on known good media brands unless you disable the PowerRec feature.

Cheers.

James.

James,

I'm measuring the speed by the information display of Easy CD Creator.
Though I haven't clocked it myself, it does seem extraordinarily long.

Media... yes I'm using Verbatim DatalifePlus. I'm very careful
about using quality media and it was one of the media that I
was told to use by a tech at Plextor.
