nero v6: drive is in use by another application |

Nero upgrade from v5.5 to v6 problem: 'drive is in use by another
application'
There is much about this in the web and usenet litrerature - possibly
exclusively with WinXP - there appears to be a solution in which
something called IMAPI has to be controlled.
However, I have the problem with win98se and, so far, have been unable
to solve it, nor can I find evidence that the very few who have found
it on win 98se have either.
All other known (potentially conflicting) burners have been removed
and also udf stuff.
Is there someone out there who operates win98se and has suffered the
problem with v6 and has solved it? |

Try:
Uninstall Nero 6, run Nero Clean Tool, install aspi 4.60 with ForceASPI
1.7 and then reinstall Nero 6.

Many thanks, indeed. The suggested fix was applied, to the letter,
and did the trick.
I'd be interested to know what the key part of the fix was, in this
particular case.
Previous to implementing your fix, the nero clean tool (not the one
you suggested) had been used and all trace of nero/ahead removed from
the registry, manually. The ASPI had been checked as all being v
4.60. All to no avail.
Anyway, there is now one more happy bunny in the burning world and a
lot of time wasting can now be avoided.

Think the clean tool you used previously didn't clean out properly. My
guess is that there's a conflict between the v5 and v6 files that
implement MultiMounter, and the clean tool you used did not delete the
v5 files, but the "new" clean tool did.
Happy ending like this, however, I usually say we both got lucked out.
