Nero6 OEM - Cache Path Settings |
|
|
I tried to burn(not by Copy Disk Command)
data from multisession DVD +RW to DVD+R
source drive F: to target drive E: The data
involved was 3.4 GB. The error message
somewhere at the near end was
"Nero could not create a temporary file.
Please check Nero's "cache path setting and
your free disk space C:\Windows\TEMP"
Against the 3.4 GB data there was 8.2 GB
free space on c: drive. Nero created about
2.7 GB temporary files and then lockedup
the system.
What is "cache path setting" and how to
man it to avoid the system lock.
Burning directly from hard disk to burner
cd/DVD does not use this setting?
Thanks for help. |

[File, Preferences], Cache tab. Make sure Cache is indeed set to
\win\temp. Clean out the \Temp directory and defrag the hard disk.
Check the DVD/CD drives on DMA. Run Nero InfoTool, Configuration tab.
If the above two are as they should be, then uninstall Roxio POS if you
still have it and then run RoxiZap (to clean out cRoxio 4,5,6):
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/kb/ecddvdc/ee6000061.jhtml
Uninstall Nero by Nero Clean Tool:
http://ww2.nero.com/enu/General_CleanTool.html
Delete Upper/Lower Filters:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314060
Reboot and then reinstall Nero. |

Your last question can be answered easily: Burning from hard disc or |
from an image does not require caching. An image does not waste space as
in the first option below.
One possibility here is that there are many small files on the source
disc. Depending on that and the HD filesystem, you may be wasting so
much space that you run out of space. (For more on this, see the page on
Arithmetic 101 in the primer at my WWW site.) Or you may have space
wasted by (invisible) files not altogether removed from the recycle bin
(try rebooting after emptying).

Wow! What a slimy friggin SOB!
All burn softwares have a cache setting specifically for small files.
Nero 5/6 has it in New Compilation, Misc tab: Cache files smaller than
64KB.

The "slack" is taken into account in used/free disk space calculation.
There is no HD file system that doesn't. If it doesn't, it wouldn't be
called a HD file system.

Hidden files are counted in used/free disk space calculation.
