not the best web designer in the world by any stretch but have done
some apps with cgi etc. and know javascript pretty well. point of sale
with credit cards etc. intranet apps. where appearance isnt the issue
but functionality is. think ill do it myself using pysoft's webserver.
going to get a static ip for the server next week and so all those
ports wont be a problem.

The active webcam apparently uses an applet in its default web
page. You should be able to put an applet in a web page for each
cam. If you can't figure it out by looking at the default page
source view, then plysoft should be able to help. Below is a
simple test page I've made that uses the free webcam2000 and a
simple page with an applet for each cam. If active webcam can
serve up individual jpg pix on request, then a java pull setup
could be used instead of the applets. Many of the issues you
mention like poor picture resolution, too many ports that are
used, ect., will be the same between cheap and expensive systems,
and also with the IP cams. Bottom line is that there is no free
ride. You either do the work yourself, or pay somebody else to do
it for you. There is a lot of free info on the net if you do some
looking. It may help you from paying too much for something you
can do your self.
