best webcam that's newer? |
|
|
I have already looked into the Creative and Logitech models, but is there
another USB webcam that just came out that does full screen and works well?

This appears to be what started out years ago as the 3com homeconnect cam.
It's decent - I have one - but I've seen better images in the last year or
two. It does have very good low light capability and 4 interchangeable
lenses. It can be had on ebay for ~$10 on up. |

Can you please be specific? Which cameras gave you better images? I've
got "the best you can get" Philips Toucam Pro II, and 3com beats it
hands down. |

3com gives sharper image, less noise, no flickering, and much better
low light sensitivity.
Framerate is a bit slower than Toucam, but I think it was solved with
the new Watchport/V2 version. |

What I meant to say was that I see better images all the time, but I don't
know what mfrs/models they are. I wish I knew. I'm beginning to look at
IP cameras or perhaps a cheap (used?) camcorder with a video to usb
converter.
As I said, the 3com does have 4 lenses (at additonal cost), and the low
light sensitivity is very good. It's certainly cheap enough on ebay to
give it a try. Oh, another necessary feature, to me, is that it does
640x480. The original poster said he wanted 'full screen' but didn't say
what that means.
Your Toucam doesn't appear to be easily available here in the US; it's not
on the Philips/US site, but does appear on Philips/UK. It appears to do
800x600.
What I really want is a Mobotix cam. Here are some cam urls for fun:
http://www.engadin-airport.ch/liveimages/ostmega.jpg (Switzerland)
http://195.206.99.79/ Austria
http://66.14.80.6:1600/ US
However, the price is a little high for me. |
