Greetings all, newbie here. I have a NEC 2500 DVD burner. I'm using
Sony DVD software to burn. The burner and software are quite adequate
for my needs. What I'm running into is file size. It appears to me
that the DVD burner is being treated like a CD burner by my PC. As an
example, if I have several MPG2 files that I want to burn to the DVD
for playback on my home theatre DVD player, I can only fit
approximately 700MB on the DVD. I was under the impression I could fit
several GB's of files on a DVD. I have applied the latest firmware to
the DVD burner and the latest patches and updates to the burning
software. I also tried several different flavors of media. I also
have the DVD burner as the master device on the secondary IDE channel.
Nothing has helped so far. It could be a compression/decompression
issue where the files need to be decompressed before they are readable
by the HT DVD player. Unfortunately, I just don't know enough about
the format issue to guess intelligently. Would appreciate any insight
or advise from the experts. Thanks in advance.

Someone knowlegable in "Sony DVD software" will be able to say more, but

it is possible that it is trying to make a standard (approximately
two-hour) DVD-Video from a more highly compressed source. For example,
it is typical to compress a two-hour film to about 700 MB with DivX.

Check the playing time of the MPEG file. If it is about two hours, your
problem is likely to be such a limitation of your software. The obvious
solution is to use more flexible software such as Nero.

What's the full name of the Sony DVD software?
Give the steps you used with the software to end up with 700M.
See if the progrm's Help mentions "authoring".)

(MPEG2 needs to be converted to IFO,VOB,BUP of DVD-Video files.)
