SCSI Server setup |
|
|
I have two IBM Netfinity 4000r servers and one has 2 - 18GB SCSI 68 pin
Ultra drives and the other has 2 - 9GB 68 pin Ultra drives. The controller
is a Symbios Logic 8951U PCI. Additionally, I have an additional pair of 9BG
SCSI 68 pin Ultra drives. What I would like to do is set up each server with
1 - 18 GB drive and 2 - 9 GB drives, which will become a RAID 1
configuration. I have on order a 68 pin cable that will handle 3 drives and
a terminator. My questions is:
It does not appear there are any jumpers on the drives to signify drive0 or
drive1...is the drive number determined by the connector on the cable?
Thanks in advance,

That is so nice to know. Any particular reason why? Or just chatting?

Oh, is there something significant to drives 0 or 1?

RTFM.

No, the Symbios Logic 8951U does not support a hardware RAID. I will be
doing a software RAID within Linux. I was able to do a RAID 1 with two
drives connected but I would like to be able to connect another.
Thanks,

What is the advantage of software RAID over non_RAID? |
The drives have identifiers (allocated by you); each drive must have a
different SCSI id (typically in the range 0-6).
Therefore somewhere there ought to be jumpers.
Google for user docs for your drives.
