I'm looking to put together a pc that will be a high end gaming machine
along with multitasking etc. So I been thinking of wanting SCSI 320 and a
15k rpm drive for the OS and apps, an ide dvdrw drive and sata 160mb seagate
ncq drive for backup. was curious if say a Fujitsu 15k 74gb or 36gb as the
main drive for the OS and stuff would work well with windows xp pro? I don't
know what scsi card to get since there's a lot of options. this won't be
scsi raid ever, just the single hard drive. The mobo will be an Asus A8N sli
deluxe or maybe not the deluxe. the cpu will be the AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core
4200+ with 1gb dual channel ddr ram along with a GF6800 type video card. I
am thinking of getting all this from newegg for a total cost around $2600
for everything.

Why do you think U320 is a good idea?

How do you define multi-tasking?
How many concurrent users?

Do your games access disks much anyway?

I suggest you spend some of that $2600 on a basic computer appreciation
course.

Sorry - but with the exception of that last question, they are points

which you should consider carefully.

I know a lot about computers, most general stuff, some more advanced. i
don't know much about scsi other then rpm speeds, access times and how the
throughput is much higher then sata and ata.

the way i use my pc would suggest that scsi would be a good choice. like
right now i am using win rar to extraxt something i downloaded from the net
and quickpar at the same time to check something else. the pc is slow when
it comes to the sata hard drive. so just opening a browser or program or
even OE would take a long time. If I was running on my WD raptor 36gb in
raid 0, it would be a lot more responsive. so i know scsi will help greatly
for the things that I do.

I'll be the only user. Multitasking is again what i just said above, i
multitask a lot. Extracting files, running multiple apps at the same time,
things like that.

i don't know for a fact, but i would even guess scsi 160 along with a 10krpm
or 15k rpm drive wouldbe much better performing then any sata drive even the
74gb raptor. anyhow i just wanted to know i guess if the price range of
$2600 from newegg could get me a good system for what i mentioned that i
wanted and i also wanted to have some scsi 320 with hard drive info like
what card would be good for non raid and what hard drive might be a good
choice. the hard drive would be the only scsi in the pc too.

No you don't know a lot (that is).

But if you had said you wanted to use SCSI to get some practical
experience and also have the advantage of 15K access times then it would
be a reasonable way to go. Especially, if you planned on a (SCSI) tape
backup device.

Please don't top post.
