QLogic 2342 not detecting drives. |
|
|
I have two qla2342 HBAs. One of them is connected to a STK 9840 tape
drive and the other to a STK 9940. The operating system is Fedora Core
release 3 and kernel version is 2.6.9-1.667.
The problem is that the tape devices are not shown in /proc/scsi/scsi.
I tried echo scsi-qlarescan > /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/*
I tried various combinations of echo scsi-add-single-device to
/proc/scsi/scsi ( because i dont know the host number)
I tried rmmod of qla2xxx and qla2300 and putting them back in again.
All this couldnt identify the drives.
Please Help !

Re: QLogic 2342 not detecting drives. |

what does 'cat /proc/scsi/scsi' output?
If you still don't see the tape devices, try hard coding the HBA's topology
setting to PtP or Loop only mode.
'modprobe -v qla2300' is all that's needed to load the module.

I tried setting it to ptp and Loop only mode, too.
In ptp at least the link was detected, but in Loop only the link is not
detected.
Any reason for this ?
I was able to detect another drive, which was in use earlier.
These two new drives, that I am not able detect are right out of the
box brand new.
There should be something wrong with the drive settings. |

Typically, you don't connect an HBA directly to a tape drive but it should
work. Check w/ the tape vendor to see what topology and speed setting their
port supports. Since you're getting a link using PtP only, try hard setting
the HBA speed to 1or 2G to see if this helps. If you still can't get
anything working, you may want to consider finding a used Brocade fibre
channel switch on ebay and not go with the direct connect anymore.

The problem was because the drives had a FICON interface whereas the
HBA had a Fibre interface :( .
Thanks for the help Moojit. |
