Ah, adults don't lie.

parental experience has afforded me at least a basic understanding of a lie.

Apparently not.
| Quote: | When I stated "...Which doesn't offer a boot order", it was not with previous
knowledge that a boot order was in fact offered.
|
So it was a lie. Plain and simple.
One doesn't say that unless one has checked that.
You obviously didn't do that, so you lied.
| Quote: | I think you are already aware of this.
|
So are you, yet deny you lied.
| Quote: | In actual fact, I
purchased the scsi card on ebay as a pull with no user guide. I suppose
my crime was not copying a guide from the Adaptec website before
getting started...right? I now know with absolute certainty that a
boot order is offered!
I made a mistake due to being in a hurry...I did not lie.
|
Thats like killing someone on a pedestrian crossing in your car and saying:
sorry, I didn't kill you, I was in a hurry.
| Quote: |
I believe you are becoming transparent... You are a perfectionist who
enjoys splitting hairs.
That's OK.
|
Apparently not.

Question: Why must classroom criteria be applied to this forum? Most
of us who post are seeking answers to problems we find difficult to
solve based on our varying degrees of limited experience. Although it
is true that finding ones own answers is usually the surest way to
remember them, life doesn't always give us the time we need to find
them in a complete fashion. Forums such as this should serve to
expedite things for us, not create more difficulty.
I have completed
the obstacle course of my formal education...I've earned my degree.
|
So? It doesn't show anywhere.
| Quote: | It shouldn't be necessary for me and others to fight for answers on a
public forum as if we are still classroom bound.
|
You don't. There are plenty of showoffs that will take the chance of doing so.

Look at it from the other side: this newsgroup has been around since 1991 [1]
and while I don't know if any of the current regulars have been around
at that time [2], I'm sure some of them have been hanging out here for
many years. Inevitable that will lead to "didn't I already answer a similar
question 25 times before?" syndrome for many newsgroup veterans.
From what I've seen in other newsgroups, that quite often leads to either
of two things:
a) the veteran goes into "stealth" mode or disappears from the newsgroup
altogether, resulting in the veteran's knowledge being lost to the newsgroup. :(
or
b) the veteran becomes a "grumpy old man" (TM) and kind of nearly bites
the head off of newbies who, in his/her opinion, didn't research the problem
enough before asking the question. The knowledge is still there for
the newsgroup, but a bit hard to get at...
A little understanding would be greatly appreciated, Mr. Rienstra.
Yes, as you yourself admitted above, he should have given you a RTFM!
|
Nope. One doesn't need the FM! to check the Setup utility.
The options are there in plain sight and in plain english.
If one misses that then one obviously didn't check.
| Quote: | instead of calling you a liar... ;-)
|
I didn't. Maybe I should have, since he's obviously in denial.
| Quote: |
But seriously, if everyone would first RTFM, search the web for an answer,
search Google Groups and if all those don't help _then_ ask the question
on usenet, people like Folkert would have a whole lot less to grumble about.
semi-joke>You're still here, so you didn't let Folkert scare you away,
but he might have scared away some lazy, spoilt 5-sec-attention-span
kiddies that wanted "us" to do their (re)searching for them with some
of his other replies, so he's actually doing the newsgroup a big service
with his grumpyness! ;^P </semi-joke
|
Amen.
What's with the [1] and [2] ? |

And I must say what a warm welcome it was!
Hi Rob,
I appreciate your civility...and your answers, too.
Hey, we do have to have our entertainment! <bg> And it is easy to get
a good laugh from him... However, despite his many flaws, he does know
a little bit about SCSI.
If you do NOT have a standard floppy drive fitted, go into motherboard |
BIOS and set drive A as disabled/not present. Are you SURE that the CDROM
drive is working. If it will not boot from all those CDs it is probably
defective. You CAN use an IDE cdrom.
