I have an old Gateway with a Gateway CRT ( I think it is a Sony). It is used
for email, internet and address book storage. Recently the monitor came up
green with very little other color.

Is this likely to be a monitor problem or video card problem? If the monitor
I could buy a cheapy; if the card then I'll probably dump the whole system.

Peter.

Monitor or cable problem... Could be the videocard, but not likely.

Most likely the monitor, but your resolution is a bit
puzzling... an old used video card might be free or only
$5-10, while a monitor is certainly more expensive and more
trouble.

First I'd pull the monitor cable off of the video card,
check the contacts, and reinsert it.

Most likely the monitor. Before running out and buying the cheapest
monitor you can find, remember that the majority of time you spend with
the computer is with the monitor. It is worth paying a little extra for a
nice monitor.
