removable scsi bay |

anyone have any advice or opinions on a good lv scsi removable bay.
seen a large difference in price, hi-low, just because it has a high
price, doesn't always mean it's the best. just wondering before I
bought, if anyone had any pro-cons on a particular model.
thanks bob |

One thing you need to consider is the durability of the connectors used on
the canisters and in the housing.
A canister designed for use with a SCA SCSI drive may use the SCA connector
on the drive directly as the interconnect, the listed life for them is
around 200 or so ( seems to depend on who you ask but all under 1000), which
for a RAID box where the drive may only be changed once or twice in the life
of the equipment it will be no problem.
But then consider where the drive is part of a secure system where the drive
may be extracted and locked in a safe every night, may even be more than
twice a day, the 200 mating cycles of the cheaper ones will not go that far.
How good is the cooling of the drive ?
Can you get canisters as a separate item, so you can have lots of drives ,
without having to also get extra housings ?
If you may need to have more than one drive the longevity of the design may
be of importance, could you get a new canister in two or five years time ?
non of this may be relevant to you but should be considered.
Have used the storcase.com DE100 series of cases good for 25,000 insertions,
but do have to say they are very expensive at around £250+ a go (250 UK
pounds).

Thanks for the reply
Would you have an opinion on these from mycableshop.com
http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/DRW150SCSI.htm
or know anything about them, ie. someone who used them but
thought they were not that great.
Thanks Bob
