Help Adaptec SCSI 2100S RAID 5 controller can't see hard dis |

Hello All
I've been called in to trouble shoot an NT 4.0 server that crashed
after 3 years of good service. The brand name is Fujitsu - Siemens and
it was supposedly running a RAID 5 array on three 8GB SCSI drives (dual
866MHz pentium threes and 512MB RAM). It has an Adaptec 2100S RAID
controller and Symbios HBA.
This baby is really sick as it intermittently boots, although its now
hanging 90% of the time. In the successful boot cases the Adaptec SMOR
utility displays JBOD Passthru on disk 0 and then RAID 5 on disk 1 as
well as seeing the 2100S raid controller and suspected Symbios GEM215
Host Bus Adapter. When it hangs the system only sees the RAID 5 array
on disk 1 and the RAID controller and Symbios HBA.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on. I have little experience with
JBOD and before forensics was made to believe that there was only a
RAID config here.(The system integrators can't seem to help)
Oh! I also entered the Adaptec SMOR and the RAID array seems optimal on
all the disks, I even ran a verify / fix tools and everything seems
fine. in addition the LED Blink codes from the Adaptec site do not shed
much light as the RAID controller LED's are only flashing on LED 1 with
8,4,3 and 2 permanently lit. |
