Howdy folks
I've heard about these devices that enable one to connect IDE devices to
SCSI busses.
Do they add more intelligence to the device? LUN's?
Is there a difference in quality?
What's the exact name of these "convertors"?
How expansive are they?
How easy to find are they?

These emulate one SCSI device, ID 0-6 for narrow or 0-6 + 8-15 for wide.
No LUNs.
Once EIDE/UATA device, one SCSI address.

No. Only one manufacturer. ACARD (Taiwan).

SCSIDE "bridge"

How expansive are they?
|
Nowadays, more expensive than a 250 GB drive on sale.
About $79, give or take.

|
Microland USA (San Jose) is the distributor.
One very significant feature of these is they can accept a device greater than
128 MB.
48-bit LBA support was added recently, as was emulation for CD and DVD drives
so all drives appear to be SCSI drives. |

They make the chips.
There are a number of manufacturers that use them.

Name card manufacturers and products which incorporate ACARD's ARC-760 SCSI-IDE
bridge chip in their product.
(There is also a LVD-SE variant of the ARC-760).

Nope.
But some of their later offerings can be found here:
http://www.addonics.com/products/io/atapi_scsi.asp
http://www.addonics.com/products/io/ide_scsi.asp
On closer inspection they appear to be OEM versions
of the Acard originals though.

Or from anyone else that sells them in Europe.

Yes, these are simply ACARD cards with the vendor's logo pasted over the
"A-Chip" logo on the "bridge" chip. |
