Screwy Mouse nearly ruined everything |
|
|
Hello, I'm just curious how many others have had a similar incident occur?
I purchased a new optical mouse (with ps2 connection) today for my desktop
since I preferred to use my previous one with my laptop.
Anyhow, fresh out of the box I connected the mouse and my world went
downhill thereafter. It took me over an hour to get back into my system
because of some crazy blue screen errors (on HOME XP).
I'd never had such a thing happen to me. Why was I so amiss? It'd been over
a week since I last backed up all my work.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? BTW, the maker is micro
innovations (of which I'll be returning to the store in the morning). |

You did have the PC turned OFF when you plugged in, right?
Did you have any special mouse software from your old mouse loaded? |

~DOH~, nah didn't have it turned off. Guess I've gotten used to plug/play
devices and well, my previous mouse (USB) always worked without a hitch and
no software. OYE!
Anyhow, I'm not willing to take a risk again. Thanks for the insight. |

Did you install the mouse software to your system?
If your Win XP with SP2, check the mouse maker site whether they have
any driver update.
Maybe the mouse software that came with mouse is having compatible
problem with SP2.
p/s I am having the same problem with my newly acquired A4 Tech Office
8K.

Yah well, any mouse that gives me this sort of a headache just isn't worth
it in my own opinion. I mean, it was really really scary not being able to
get into my PC (harks back to windows 98 days....remember them?)
Anyhow I WAS only able to get back in because I've got a dual boot with XP
Professional on my other drive (for development reasons). From there, I had
it check my C: Drive and then all was fine thereafter.
Guess I'll have to shell out the extra dough for a good USB mouse comparable
to my old one which is driving me batty since I'm switching back and forth
with the same mouse betw. my laptop and my desktop.
Cheers,
;-) |

Uhm.. PS2 is not hot swappable. You should not connect/disconnect and PS2
device while the computer is powered up (or even plugged in if PS2 Wake is
supported by your mainboard). Any mouse could have caused the issue.
Honestly I doubt it was the mouse at all... More likely a static jolt or
moving the PC to get access to the plug. |

Obviously from what I mentioned, one should be able to gather that I've been
used to having a USB connection mouse. Ergo, I'm not interested in a PS2 and
have already returned the aforementioned item.
Thanks anyhow for the attempt at enlightenment. |

Apologies,
Just re-read my last post and realised the tone was far from what I
intended. Please excuse since it's not what i originally had in mind.
