SCSI configuration headache |
|
|
Hi,
I've got a SCSI set-up failing on me quite badly. It's configuration
is as follows... all drives are 68-pin variety. Host machine is a
Dell PowerEdge 400SC with Symbios Logic host adaptor. Operating
System Windows 2003 Server.
/ external U320 terminator
|
=== vvv External SCSI box (U320 rated 0.5m)
|
[73Gb Barracuda 10k] ------| ID3 (in removable caddy)
[73Gb Barracuda 10k] ------| ID2 (in removable caddy)
|
===
|
| 1m U320 cable
|
=== vvv Inside the Dell
|
[Symbios Host adapter] ---| ID7
[36Gb Barracuda 10k] ------| ID0
[36Gb Barracuda 10k] ------| ID1
|
\ terminated twist'n'flat cable (0.5m)
Problems:-
* The 73Gb disks degrade to 40/8-bit rather than the expected
320/16-bit. The controller does this in the BIOS.
* The 73Gb disks sometimes do come up at 320/16-bit but drop dead
after an hour with controller errors after working fine for a period
of time.
Have I done a silly with termination or have I missed something
completely? Is it the caddies? How can I diagnose the problems?
Cheers,
- Chris. |
