installing scsi win98 |

Hi,
I've been looking around the web and newsgroups trying to figure this
out, and no luck yet so I decided to see if anyone might know how to
fix this. (sorry for the long post)
Problem: Unable to get win98 to run with scsi drives out of
compatibility mode.
Controller: Adaptec 7895
Attached Devices: tape drive(seagate), hard drive(western digital).
Description:
Trying to recycle a computer at work (PII) that was decommisoned (due
to bad RAM). Removed the ram stick, put in a new one, works fine.
Previous OS was Win NT 4. Deleted partitons, formatted, install win95
then win98 upgrade.
On first run, win98 upgrade freezes, checking bootlog it stops trying
to load aic78xx.vxd(adaptec). Download latest drivers, freezing still
continues, comb newsgroups, copy aix78xx.vxd(version 1.23) off win95
disk(off a recommendation in a thread). Able to load win98, but Drive
C has compatibility mode issue (scsi hard drive).
Device manager looks clean except for the following:
+SCSI Controllers
!Adaptec AHA 2940U/UW...(not working properly)
!Adaptec AHA 2940U/UW...(not working properly)
+System Devices
-Direct Memory Access Controller (working ok)
!Direct Memory Access Controller (not working properly)
Is the source of the problem the adaptec controller/dma being added
twice? I've tried removing them and reinstalling, and this is always
the resulting setup. Any clues would be much appreciated. |
