Hi all,
I am having a problem having my Adaptec 3920 and two identical IBM SCSI
drives forming a raid pair.
the pair up nicely and after about 2% the alarm on the card goes off and
copying stops.
The original drive already has a clean install of XP pro on it.
Do I need to have two absolutely clean drives before starting?

Thanks for all your help,
Michelle

Something else is probably happening. What alarm with what message at 2%?

Ron,
It is an audible alarm on the card. It just says Copy failed and the
drive status show degraded.
This has happened with two different drives and I am now formatting both
drives and starting over.

I will tell you how it turns out.

Ron,
I tried it again. I formatted both drives from the card. Everything was
successful. I then was successful when I was able make the RAID-1 array.
it then wanted me to copy from one drive to the other. This went well to
about 50% then failed. I was not present when it happened. The Array
status then showed degraded.
I deleted the raid array and happened on the make drive hot spare
option. I selected this and it seems to be working fine. The only
problem is I have no idea if this configuration is providing me with any
data backup.

Then no mirror.

Two drive RAID 1 with one being hot spare gives you nothing. The failure of
the mirroring/copy at 50% must be debugged.
