Very slowly SCSI |
|
|
Hello
I have some problem with my configuration SCSI
My hardware :
Windows XP prof Sp2 - English
Controller SCSI Mylex AcceleRaid 170(Ultra160) -> Cable 68pin -> Adapter
68pin -> Maxtor Atlas III - Ultra320 10K -> terminator SCSI (Ultra160)
When i run Hdtach and check my hardware i have results :
Random TIme ~8ms
Burst Rate ~30MB/s = Why it's slowlly ? The Ultra320 should be ~320MB/s /
2(Ultra160) = ~160 MB/s
What is bad ?
Thx for any sogestions
Soory for my English . |

What is "Adapter 68pin "? Is the Atlas III a 80P model?

The 30MB/sec. sounds like it's in SE mode.

I have a quantum 10K 3 u160 drive, it gets about 55MB/sec. for block output
and input in bonnie. So yours should be about the same. Like Ron says, it
sounds like you have it in SE mode. u320 refers to the interface speed, not
the drive speed. You won't see such speeds without striping dozens of disk
together. |

I have two systems, each with Mylex 170 running RAID 0 running under XP Pro
SP2.
Make sure you have the latest BIOS ver. 6.01-39 , Firmware 7.02-00 and XP
driver dac2w2k.sys 11/15/2002
http://www.lsilogic.com/downloads/downloads.do?product=2458&download_type=all
The drives are HP (Compaq) 10K U320 72GB which give about 48 MB/sec running
stand-alone with Adaptec 29160
With 3 drives the speed for Mylex 170 RAID 0 is 85 MB/sec
With 5 drives the speed for Mylex 170 RAID 0 is 110 MB/sec
So you don't need dozens of drives to get significant speed |

I wonder what you'd get (or got) with 2 drives?
My Mylex 1164p seems to do pretty well that way. The WDE91's are supposed to be
28/MB sec. The Mylex has 3 channels. Using this little program called Quick
Bench, one drive, gives about 25MB. Two drives on one channel gives about 50MB.
A drive each on two channels gives about 52MB/sec, and three channels with a
drive each gives around 79MB/sec, which obviously, is very close to what the
drives are supposed to do. With two drives on one channel, and one on the other
internal connector, I get just a few MBs less -- around 74MB/sec. All three
drives on one channel drops down significantly more to around 60MB/sec.
I ordered 6 more WDE91's, and a couple external cables, and some single
enclosures. I hope to get around 180MB/sec.
Bryan

Hm ... that's pretty damn good performance there. On my Adaptec 39160 and 3
quantum Atlas 10K III's I get about 80MB/sec with 3 drives raid 0 (software
raid in linux tho).
But still, my original point was referring to getting near the 320MB/sec
interface speed. I have never seen such speeds on any array myself, not
even on a SAN (raid5) with dozens of u320 fc disks. But then I have not
benchmarked that much. |
